Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

In order to make the audience satisfied, we need to present our film in a way that they would most enjoy it and recommend other people. 

And these are some of the main issues that we need to bare in mind to make our film a success:

Audience:

Now, without the audience who else do we show our film to? That is why the key thing to do is to make sure that the audience are focused and entertained with what is being shown on the screen. We also need to make sure that the things that we will be presenting is aimed at the right audience.

For Example:

Age 12: This film is recommended for persons with or over 12 years of age. May contain   mild inappropriate language, mild sexual innuendo, or mild violence.  

Age 15: This film is recommended for persons with or over 15 years of age. May contain strong language, sexual innuendo and/or mild sex with or without mild nudity, strong violence, or moderate scenes of or allusions to drug use.   

Age 18: This film is forbidden for people younger than 18 years of age. It may contain strong language, explicit sexual content, frequent nudity, strong violence, or explicit scenes of drug abuse.

Representation:
With representation we have to make sure that all the editing, all the different camera angels and shots we have done, should some together and be something that is presentable to the targeted audience. Since our age rating was 15, we had to make sure that the film looked just right. So that means we couldn't have something that was too explicit or something that was too boring and childish like. 

This graph shows that some of the main elements to make a film successful would be the GENRE, ACTORS and ADVERTS (How it is advertised).

As i had answered in Question 4 & 5, some of the ways we would advertise our film would be through socializing websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and more.

Also in order to fit the genre that we are going for, which is a psychological thriller, is by using some the basic elements of it. Such as:

Blood

Weapon

Victim

Anonymous

These are all the typical conventions used in a psychological killing. Furthermore, the gender choice seems to be typical as well:

Male --> Killer                              Female --> Vicitm

As you can see, both these camera shots and camera angles are very similar with each other. They both are panning around the characters. I believe that the preliminary video was good. However the final video seemed a bit more well structured and well presented. I believe this is because, through watching our preliminary film, we had noticed some of the editing mistakes and some of the areas that we could have improved. By analyzing this, we had put it into our final video which helped make this a success. This camera angle had, in a sense, made our film a bit more exciting and intriguing as well as it had built suspension as well.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?

I believe these ideas would help to make our video be out there into the wider society and help to grab the attention of our audience and also it will help to see if we get the right audience as well. Another way we could do this is by publishing it onto magazine (low budget). In the Magazine it could give the reader a slight insight to the film, but also provides them a link so then they can see the artefactual video. 
I think distributing the film would be effective then the other ways because the people that will be able to access the film would be the age range that i am targeting at.

About her:

Nilima, on the left, is the type of girl who likes to explore the different sort of genres in films. She extremely enjoys watching something that is exciting and unique as she likes to stay entertained. One of the films she found extremely scary would be, of course, the most common, ‘The Exorcist’. She’s into all the supernatural films and all the films to do with paranormal activity. She tends to go out a lot and likes to shop around. She hates window shopping. She finds window shopping as a ‘tease’ so she always has a bundle of money with her. She goes to different areas around London and likes to explore different areas with her friends. 

Why is she a good example:

The reason of why I chose Nilima to be an example of my target audience is because her personality seems to be quite girly and a typical teenage girl. To be honest our film seems to be quite an action packed film, something that could gain great interest with boys. The music that we have in our film seems to be quite a hard, drum and bass. However Nilima is not like this. She tends to listen to her love songs and songs with ‘meanings’ therefore she may find the music that is used in the film, revolting.

Conclusion:

I had thought at first that both genders would have liked the film that we have made as long as they were 15 years old. But now I have realised that our film would appeal to certain people. It actually depends on their personal interest. As I have shown above, Nilima would not be well suited to watch this film. However, I still believe that the majority of teenagers would be interested to watch something like this as teenagers have that active mind. Therefore enabling them to have that strong attraction to do things which are exciting. One of them could be to watch our film :).

What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

JVC: We used the JVC camera to record our thriller. In my opinion it was a hard device to use. It seemed quite hassling. However, once you press the record button it was a beauty. This equipment captured the best moments... Regardless how many times we went wrong!

FINAL CUT PRO: Final Cut Pro was by far the hardest software that i had used. The reason is because i am not really familiar with iMac's. I find that pretty hard to use. But once getting the hang of it i had seen that Fianl Cut Pro provides many different tools from editing to different effects on the screen. It was really amazing at how realistic our
film was starting to look with the help of FCP.

LIVETYPE: Livetype was a pretty straight software to be honest. I had found this the easiest. This was because, all you really had to was to choose the font, size and animations that you want for your titles and you could simply then import the titles to your actual film. We had chosen to use a font called 'N.E' and use the animation 'Frigid' (if i remember clearly). I believe this was well suited as we needed something that would be quite eye-catching. We had also used an exiting animation called 'Tv Off' which would make the titles seem more eye-catching and exciting.

SOUNDTRACK PRO: This was a fun program. The sound effects that were installed into this was amazing. The quality, the way it was realistic and the amount that they had was astonishing. It was fun browsing around the program, but then we knew we had to get back to our work. We had used the effects of the girl screaming, banging on the door and the camera click. What was really cool about this one was that you could have the movie playing on the left-hand side so you would know where the sound would go and how it would sound. That was extremely helpful. Then, as normal, we would simply have to just import it into Final Cut Pro.

 YouTube: i think i speak for everyone when i say that YouTube was the biggest help us yet! With YouTube we could access many different thriller opening quickly and easily. From this we had gathered many different ideas on how to make our thriller seem original and how to put our ideas and themes across to the audience. The 3 main thrillers that we constantly had browsed YouTube for are : SE7EN, FRIDAY THE 13TH, BATMAN

 HANDBRAKE: This little converter software had made me go through a lot of headaches. At times it wouldn't work, at times i didn't know how to work it. What this does is that it converts our finishing product, which would be saved as a project on FCP, into a Quicktime so then it we could post our videos on our blogs. It was quick and easy (after the third attempt)

 Through this journey of making this film, i had come across the different types of technology needed in making a film. Well, it's not everything that a real film would need, but for as an amateur film, it was still hard work. The main thing i thought was the hardest was when it would come to editing. I found it extremely hard because at times things just go away as a mistake or you may not know how to use a certain file. But after this experience, i feel quite comfortable while i am around the iMac's as i have started to get used to using one now (although i would much prefer my normal computer!).

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media?

The way i believe that our Thriller challenges the forms and conventions of real products and conventions is the way we had used some ideas from our favorite thriller openings and had recreated to something of our own. I think in my point of view, as we were filming, we had started gaining different ideas of how we would film certain areas. There were areas such us Locations, Mise en Scene and Sound that we had to think closely about. For example, the Shadow scene of the Mask. To be honest, we had no intention that we wanted to record the shadows. As the camera woman, whilst i was filming, i could see that the shadow seemed to look intriguing. I had told my group about it and we all agreed that the shadow effect was a pretty radical idea and we should go for it.
I believe the soundtrack was something that we had found to be quite a challenge. We had seen that mostly psychological thrillers start off with a slow mellow tune. As good as that was, we thought it was too common. We wanted something different. Something that would actually be really enticing and create a tense atmosphere. This is when our group member Samir had suggested us with this soundtrack. It was great! It was unique!It was perfect. The unusual thing that was, although it made the group ecstatic, was that we did not have to cut or crop any part of the music. It fell in beautifully with our film! Well done Samir!
I believe that we had faced many different challenges in which we had fought through successfully and even though some of the areas had been used in some other real thriller openings, i believe that ours had a sense of uniqueness which caused our feedback to be positive!

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

SE7EN:
In this film, the main character seems to be quite unusual and quiet. He seems to be focused on what he is doing. In my point of view, i thought that he looked quite educated. I believe this is done by the props that are around him. The glasses could represent (in a sense) intelligence. He has books around him, which portrays that he may be studying something. The pictures that he cuts, seems to be carefully cut. The setting of the place that he seems to be in, looks as if it could be a laboratory. We don't get to see the actual persons face which is a clear resemblance of out thriller as well. 

 







We can see a resemblance between the two pictures. The identity of the character remains to be hidden. The only time we get to see a sight of the main character would be when the camera closes up to their actions which they do. Other than that, their identity is hidden.

Audience feedback and comment:

 I believe the response which I had gotten back from my audience is exactly what I and my group had wanted. We wanted our response to seem as if the viewer had never seen such gruesome things and to be honest, most of the feedback did mention how ‘dark’ or ‘red’ it was.

I was also observing the audiences facial expressions. They seemed to be astounded of what was on the screen. Perfection! One element that I think was the cause of them being drowned in into our film would be the pounding up beat music. In contrast to many other films, our film seemed to have the loudest music. The thumping music was well suited well to our film. The sudden fade of music seemed to create tension. Also I had seen that when the viewers saw the mask and the blood on it, they had a slight disgust expression on their face. Wonderful! I was ecstatic as I sat there analysing their reaction. It seemed to have ‘ticked off’ all the boxes that I had on my check list of how I wanted our film to make the audience respond.

I believe that the target audience that we started off with, which was ‘15’ is still the correct age group that we are targeting at. This is because the age group that was watching the film, 16-18, seemed to reflect the film as being well suited for them. I believe that ‘12’ may have been fairly too young as the beginning does seem a bit too much for that age. Whereas ‘18’ would be too ambitious. The reason why I believe ‘15’ would be well suited is because it does not contain ‘pornographic’ content and the film does not need to be under any parental supervision.

Last Day of Editing =))

We’re done! I feel absolutely great. I feel like, after all the hard work, and all the things that we went through, it paid off!! I’m ecstatic, I’m lost for words! I hope my group feels the same as well. After constant hard work and constant editing, we managed to do it!

In my opinion I believe that it was everything that I could have imagined it to be and more. With every edit, we came closer and brought a big smile on our face to be honest. In my point of view, I found it extremely hard using the iMac’s. I would much prefer using the normal computers. But it’s always better to experience new things and learn new things. And since Apple is dominating the technology market, I guess it’s beneficial for all us! =)

Watching our final clip was kind of hard to watch in my point of view to be honest. I found it kind of hard to watch, because it felt like the end of the journey. The responses from all the classmates that were editing beside us were extremely astonished with our video. I guess that was a great advantage to us as we knew we had succeeded what we wanted, that was, making our audiences be proud of the video as we were. =) Thanks Jade, Carlos and Samir for this journey. =))
