Intertextuality

In examining a film's intertextuality,  we have to look at what the author has borrowed from other sources and different ideas which are then used in the film to transform it into something new.

For example, The Matrix draws upon texts of Christian, Buddhist, and Hindu religions, Alice in Wonderland, and the films Metropolis and Dark City, among many other sources.
